Suspension

Vehicle suspension systems are designed to keep the car in control, hold to the road, and create a smooth ride. Automotive suspension systems were designed to last for a number of years under normal driving conditions. Extreme driving conditions and bad habits will lead to components and parts wearing down sooner and needing repairs. Regular inspection and maintenance of tires, joints, bushings, shocks, and struts will prolong your system and keep it operating optimally.

Car Suspension Repairs & Performance Upgrades

A car has an independent suspension system that is more complex than a rigid axle. Each wheel can move up and down independently on the same axle. Most modern cars use MacPherson struts or double wishbone for their independent suspension systems. If the car is showing signs of drifting, pulling, riding rough, or seams bouncy your system needs to be looked over for repairs. This might be the best time to upgrade the worn-out stock suspension parts to better-performing ones. Upgrades don’t have to break the bank or be a super performance suspension overhaul, just adding a higher quality part will improve your car’s systems feel and ride.

Truck & SUV Suspension Repairs

A truck’s system has a few designs to make sure you don’t feel every little bump in the road, especially off the road. The leaf spring system is an earlier version used to absorb the impact between the frame and the axle by connecting them through a u-shaped flexible form. The connection points can become worn and the flexing of the leaf springs over time will wear on the system. Most mid-size trucks today have a coil spring system in the front and a leaf spring system in the rear, some full-size or heavy-duty still use a rigid axle with leaf springs in the front. Coil springs allow for more travel from each wheel when flexing up or down giving the driver more control in uneven environments. Most SUVs have an independent system, but some of the luxury ones are equipped with air suspension and adjustable ride height. Some common symptoms of a poor-performing suspension on a truck or SUV is a spongy ride, too much bounce, less control, and leaking shocks.
