Water Pumps

Automotive water pumps are responsible for circulating fluid from the radiator through the engine block to help cool the engine. The water pump is belt driven by the crankshaft of the engine, having the proper tension on the belt will increase the water pumps life and its ability to perform. A loose belt can cause poor circulation, slipping and overheating. A water pump belt that is too tight will wear out the belt and the water pump bearings. It is important that during regular maintenance all belts are inspected for proper tension and wear.

What are the signs of a failing water pump in a vehicle?

Oftentimes, when a water pump is failing or not working correctly the radiator, will overheat and release steam. Other indicators are fluid leaking at the front of the vehicle or whinning sounds while in operation. Your vehicle might run consistently at hot temperatures due to bad fluids, corrosion in the pump, and poor fluid flow. If you are experiencing any of these signs you should get a professional diagnosis to properly resolve the issue.
